Domaine Valdition, a beautiful estate at the heart the French Alpilles in southern France, produces fine wine and a very highly regarded AOP Vallée des Baux olive oil, grown on 30 acres of olive grove between Eygalières and Saint-Rémy de Provence.
The oil is sold in a sleek and minimalist bottle free of any paper label. The bottle comes packaged in an exclusive looking cylindrical container, protecting it from excessive exposure to light.
A perfect candidate for my next portfolio self-assignment… But there is a twist. With text and graphic elements directly printed on the glass, on both sides of the bottle, my first stab at photographing it turned out to be a challenging experiment. With only one bottle available and containing the actual exclusive liquid, there was no option to alter its opacity and spoil it. Finding an adequate angle for the main inscriptions to stand out without any interference from the other side of the bottle proved difficult.
In this first session, I chose to present the bottle on a dark, precious looking piece of textile. While still present, the transparency effect become less obvious, and the setting emphasizes the exclusivity of the product, treating it almost like a bottle of fragrance.
This work is part of a self-assignment and was in no way contracted by Domain Validation.
